Cleaning Tips for Real People

My Love Affair with Vinegar

That's right, I'm having an affair with vinegar. I love it. After YEARS of using cleaners at the store that either didn't work well or cost to much I decided to go back to basics. I'm done throwing my money away.

Vinegar vs. Hard Water
Living in Arizona can be challenging in many ways. One of those ways is battling hard water stains on glasses that come out of the dishwasher. I now use a few splashes of vinegar in the dishwasher every time I run it. I simply pour a bit in along with the usual detergent and my glasses come out clearer. I also use it as a rinse aid - I simply pour it in where you would normally put a rinse agent.

Every few months I soak my wine glasses in the sink half filled with water and half filled with vinegar. They look gorgeous after that! Great thing to do before parties too.

Hard water build up on sinks - I hate it. Now I can fix it! I soak paper towels in vinegar and wrap them around the faucet. Let it sit for an hour or so and wipe that awful build up away! Ta-Dah!!

Vinegar + Baking Soda = Magic

My new friends

If you mix vinegar with baking soda to make a paste, you can clean just about anything with it. Bath tubs, grout, ovens, oven doors, anything that needs a good scrubbing. I just used it to clean the grout on the tiled floor in my kitchen.

No special measurements here, just mix until it forms a paste.

I put the mixture on the grout, let it set for about 15 minutes and then scrubbed it with a brush. I then wet mopped the entire floor to remove the mixture.

This is all I used for my grout cleaning extravaganza.

Ahhh, clean grout. So easy!
